Dear Blue Ridge Residents,
Spring is in full swing, and Bloomington has already gotten more peaceful following IU graduation ceremonies earlier this month! It’s a great time to get out and work in the yard, walk the neighborhood, and enjoy the new growth all around us. On behalf of the Blue Ridge Neighborhood Association (BRNA) Board, I’m happy to share the May/June 2023 edition of the Blue Ridge e-Bugle.
A quick reminder that the 2023 Neighborhood Yard Sale will occur this coming weekend, May 20, from 8am to 3pm!– more details in the news and announcements below.
First, a note of thanks to BRNA at-large board member, Kelly Bogan, for his years of service to Blue Ridge, as well as serving (along with wife Ruth) as the decorator of our gates during the holiday season for the last 8 years or so. Kelly recently shared that he is moving out of the neighborhood, and while we wish him well, we will miss him.
Incidentally, we need a new Chief Decorator – please email me at cjrutz@gmail.com if you are interested! This also leaves an open board post, so I welcome responses from anyone who has a couple of hours a month to spare to support the neighborhood, and/or just wants to get involved and meet other neighbors!
UPCOMING EVENTS (also on our website - www.blueridgebloomingtonin.org - which includes a calendar of events ):
- May 20: Blue Ridge Yard Sale, 8am to 3pm – rain date June 3
- June 6: Blue Ridge Food Truck Night, Rusgan Drive, 4pm to 8pm
- June 20: June BRNA board meeting, Sleepers Bar at Cascade Inn, 7pm
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
“Anthony’s Lawn Care and Landscaping” new service provider for Walnut Street Gates
There is a new lawn care provider for the Walnut Street entrance area – locally-owned Anthony’s Lawn Care and Landscaping.
Please note that the BRNA board has approved Anthony’s Lawn Care to place a standard yard sign in the lawn area outside of the Walnut Street gates, and Anthony’s has provided an additional discount for their services as a result. While the BRNA board, and other Blue Ridge neighbors may sometimes monitor and remove signage outside of the gates, please do not remove Anthony’s sign! Contact the board at blueridgebloomington@googlegroups.com with any questions or concerns.
Food Truck Night is back in June!
By popular demand, Blue Ridge will again host food trucks (and a farm truck) on Rusgan Drive near the corner of Ramble Road East on June 6, from about 4pm to 8pm. Come join your neighbors and friends for good food as we welcome the summer, and pick up some fresh vegetables or flowers for your yard! This will be one of ONLY two food truck nights scheduled for Blue Ridge this summer – the next will be August 1, so don’t miss it!
La Poblana, Rasta Pops, Pappyshack, and the Sylvie Rose Farm Truck have confirmed their participation, so it should be a great event!
Blue Ridge Neighborhood Yard Sale – May 20th
Need some new kitchenware, puzzles, bicycle, or end tables? You may be in luck, as more than 20 households in Blue Ridge will be participating in the Blue Ridge Neighborhood Yard Sale this Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Please invite your friends and take a walk around the neighborhood to peruse the treasures that your neighbors might be willing to part with!
If you signed up to participate, you may have received a yard maker by your mailbox – although, with such strong participation, we were a couple of yard markers short, so please feel free to use other signage if you prefer.
Contact Chris Franke directly at octafrank@gmail.com, or text (812) 340-0982 if you would like to request a yard sale marker.
Brush Pickup Update
Blue Ridge Neighbors put almost 50 piles of brush out for removal as part of the Neighborhood Brush Pickup in March – this represents more than 6,000 cubic feet of brush! Special thanks to Jane Parker Smith for organizing crews to conduct invasive plant removal prior to the pickup. Some of the invasives were able to be hauled away at no cost thanks to a grant from the City of Bloomington’s Housing and Neighborhood Services department.
If you have any questions about the May/June e-Bugle, or have suggestions for future editions, please email Cory Rutz (cjrutz@gmail.com). Thank you!
