Government

The Blue Ridge neighborhood is located entirely within Bloomington city limits, in Bloomington Township. Bloomington’s chief administrative officer is Mayor Mark Kruzan. The main legislative body of the City is a nine-person City Council. Our local council representative (District 2) is Brad Wisler, who can be contacted at (812)349-3409, or at wislerb(a)bloomington.in.gov.

The City of Bloomington’s NeighborLink tool may also be useful; it is a one-stop access point to allow Bloomington residents to communicate with the City about neighborhood concerns.

Three County Commissioners and a seven-member County Council form the governing bodies of Monroe County.

Leaf Pick-Up

Each Fall the City of Bloomington sponsors a leaf collection program which includes composting information, free pickup of bagged yard waste on trash collection days, and vacuuming of leaves along city curbsides. The collection schedule will be posted in the Herald Times, and on the City of Bloomington’s Leaf Collection webpage.

Police

In case of an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergencies, or to report suspicious activities around the neighborhood, the City of Bloomington Police Department’s telephone number is (812)339-4477.

The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department collects recyclable materials every other week on our normal trash day (Tuesday). Paper materials must be separated from plastics and glass into separate bins. For more information, or to request a refrigerator magnet with recycling pickup dates, visit the City of Bloomington’s recycling page.

Hazardous materials should be brought to Monroe County Solid Waste Management District‘s Central Station, located at 3400 South Walnut Street, open 7:30am – 5:30pm, Monday thru Saturday. Recyclable materials can also be dropped off at the Central Station during their normal business hours.
